Hushbird
Dina’s English publishing imprint, Hushbird Ltd, was founded in 2017.
The name emerged during a family brainstorming session. Dina was open to all suggestions, as long as they included the word “Hush”. The reason was simple: she had already begun to imagine the graphic novel Nettle and the HushHush. “HushHush” was her name for the strange creatures only Nettle could see — beings that would later become a central element in Dina’s wider universe.
After many creative suggestions she eventually settled on Hushbird — most likely because it allowed her to create a dragon-themed logo, but also because it resonated with her emerging project Blackbird (later Greylegs, whose creatures are in fact also HushHush).
Dina published all her books in English through Hushbird. After her passing the English imprint was closed, and in 2023 her family established the Norwegian, family-owned Hushbird AS. The company manages Dina’s financial and intellectual rights and continues to publish her work, including Dina´s World.
Our first step is to make available the remaining stock of Dina’s earlier books: Greylegs and The Snow Cat Prince, the latter in its four different editions and languages. We also still have copies of the Norwegian release Vill og andre historier (Wild and Other Stories).
Looking ahead, we hope to reprint and publish several of Dina’s other books — Sprout, Mermay, Wild, Alone, and Fern— in both Norwegian and English editions. We also plan to offer art prints of selected works.
Hushbird is based in a rustic ground-floor studio at Bjerregaards gate 12 in Oslo. From the same premises we also run film production through our other company, Norlund AS, and sell Dina’s books directly over the counter.
